Sourcing Local Produce

Rothiemurchus Farm Shop and Deli – located at the Rothiemurchus Centre, you will find delicious ingredients for your culinary creations and hearty home cooked meals. Whether you are looking for mouth-watering goodies for dinner or a personalized gift hamper, the farm shop and deli offers a delicious array of products, 01479 812 345.

Pro Fish – located in Myrtlefield Shopping Centre in Aviemore, this family-run fish shop has a super range of fresh local fish and shellfish. You can call them and order anything that you would like, 01479 810 576.

The Cairngorms Farmers Market – if you enjoy cooking, you may like to pick up your own local ingredients and create some delicious meals yourself, the Cairngorms Farmers Market is the closest one to home with regular dates throughout the summer. You will be able to find out where and when these are on by looking in the What’s On guide.


The Druie, Rothiemurchus – right on your doorstep, next door to the Rothiemurchus Centre is the Druie Café. Contemporary décor (they used the same interior designer as Forest Cottage, Fanny Ward), this cosy and friendly café sell arguably the best coffee in the Highlands. They predominantly use produce from the Rothiemurchus Estate. They have a lovely outdoor seating area which is perfect for sunny days (and dog friendly). The Mountain Café, Aviemore – owned by a passionate and incredibly talented kiwi chef, for many frequent visitors it’s almost impossible to visit the area without a breakfast or coffee and cake in the multi-award winning Mountain Café. You often need to wait for a table as they don’t take bookings but (unless you are starving) it is worth the wait.

Carrbridge Kitchen, Carrbridge – this is a relatively new café to add to the local café scene and it has become very popular with both locals and holidaymakers alike.

High St. Merchants, Grantown-on-Spey – Grantown is a beautiful historic town which is well worth a visit, even more so now that this wonderful, unique café is established on the High Street. They pride themselves in using organic, fair traded, and locally sourced products where ever they can.


The Old Bridge Inn, Aviemore – the closest restaurant to the cottage, this cosy, candle-lit restaurant sits on the banks of the River Spey. They work closely with local farmers and suppliers, to keep the menu as full of local delights as possible. They also have a cosy bar area where you can eat and drink nestled by the open fire. The Old Bridge is a popular venue for both locals and tourists so we recommend that you book, 01479 811 137.

The Rowan Tree Country Hotel – only a 10-minute drive from the cottage on the road toward Kincraig, this is a relaxed and very good restaurant serving the freshest, principally Scottish ingredients. Meals are served daily between 5.30 and 8.30pm, 01479 810 207.

Andersons Restaurant, Boat of Garten – this relaxed and informal bistro style restaurant is about a 20-minute drive from the cottage. They are committed to using local Scottish produce when it is in season. In peak season booking is essential and be aware that they are sometimes closed on Tuesdays. The Cross, Kingussie – this exclusive restaurant is around a 20-minute drive from the cottage and is well worth the journey. They offer a three-course menu with several choices for each course or you can select their six-course signature tasting menu. The Cross is the perfect setting to celebrate a special occasion or simply an opportunity to sample some delicious local cuisine. It’s essential to book so that you don’t miss out, 01540 661 166.

Muckrach Country House Hotel, Dulnain Bridge – this brasserie-style restaurant is a fairly new addition to the local restaurant scene and will take about 20-minutes to reach from the cottage. The dishes are simple and yet stylish and delicious as they are made using the finest local ingredients sourced from the Scottish Highlands. Booking is recommended, 01479 851 227.
